What Is Nose Reshaping?
Nose reshaping (sometimes referred to as a “nose job” or its medical term, “rhinoplasty”) can enhance your facial features by modifying the shape of your nose. Plastic surgeons usually recommend that patients wait until they are at least 14 or 15, and possibly older for boys, before undergoing rhinoplasty because the nose may not be fully developed at a younger age. If you are a teen, your nose reshaping surgeon will want to be certain that you have thought carefully about surgery and that the desire to change your appearance is based on your own feelings, rather than those of your parents or friends.
Dr. Joseph M. Perlman can help you decide whether nose reshaping is a good move for you. He and his staff will listen carefully to your reasons for wanting the surgery so they can make sure you are on the right path. They have assisted various men, women, and teens from Spring, The Woodlands, and other sites in the Houston area. In addition, Dr. Perlman treats African-American, Asian, and Middle Eastern patients who would like to fix cosmetic nose problems. These patients often require grafts or implants to improve the shape of the nose.

Am I a Good Candidate for Nose Reshaping?
Assuming you are in good health, there is no upper age limit for nose reshaping. Some of the indications that you may be a good candidate for rhinoplasty are as follows:
- Your nose appears too large for your face.
- A bump on the nasal bridge can be viewed in profile.
- Your nose seems too wide when viewed from the front.
- The nasal tip droops or plunges.
- The tip is thickened or enlarged.
- Your nostrils are excessively flared.
- Your nose is off-center or crooked.
- Previous injury has made your nose asymmetrical.
Nose reshaping can also be used to correct certain breathing problems that are related to the internal nasal structures. Dr. Perlman will be able to help you determine whether these structures should be modified along with reshaping your nose.
What Is the Process for Nose Reshaping?
Rhinoplasty takes place under intravenous sedation or general anesthesia and typically lasts for one to two hours. There are two methods for the surgery: closed procedure, where the incisions are hidden in the nose, and open procedure, where an incision is made across the columella, the narrow strip of tissue that separates the nostrils. After the incisions, the soft tissues that cover the nose are raised, allowing your nose reshaping surgeon to manipulate your nasal structure.
Nose reshaping is sometimes performed in conjunction with a facelift or other rejuvenating surgery. You can talk to Dr. Perlman about any additional procedures you would like. He will explain the full process of your nose reshaping during your initial meeting.
What Does Recovery Entail After Nose Reshaping?
When you undergo nose reshaping, you will probably require a splint, internal tubes, or packing inside your nose. A splint or bandages will also be placed on the outside to support and protect the new contours. Common side effects from the procedure include soreness, swelling, and bruising, which may last for a few weeks. A nose reshaping may also lead to some stiffness or numbness, particularly at the tip of the nose. Usually, patients can return to work within two weeks.
Your healing process is very important to Dr. Perlman and his medical team. We keep a close watch on all of our patients, whether they’re from Spring, The Woodlands, or surrounding areas. Our compassionate and comprehensive care has made us a top destination for nose reshaping in and around Houston.
Can I See Nose Reshaping Before and After Photos?
Nose jobs are some of the most talked-about cosmetic procedures. Because a nose is the central part of people’s faces, we tend to notice any changes right away. Before you take the big step and commit to rhinoplasty, be sure to examine some nose reshaping before and after pictures. Browsing these images will give you a good idea of what is possible with the procedure. Dr. Perlman has a collection of nose reshaping before and after photos that he encourages you to view. He understands how effective they can be when you are making a decision about a nose job.
What Are Nose Reshaping Costs?
When you are gauging nose reshaping prices, you have to take into account the extent of the surgery and whether there are other procedures performed at the same time. Your initial discussion with Dr. Perlman and his staff will shed light on how much nose reshaping would cost for you. Dr. Perlman also offers finance options to all of our patients.
Every nose surgery is a unique work of art
Much in the way that no two people have an identical nose, there is no true rhinoplasty surgery designed for all patients. Instead, multiple nose reshaping procedures are available. Regardless of rhinoplasty surgery, Dr. Perlman always tailors the treatment to the individual. This ensures a patient can undergo a primary rhinoplasty or any other nose job procedure that results in a harmonious facial appearance.
Types of Nose Surgeries
Rhinoplasty
A rhinoplasty is one of the most popular nose surgeries. Commonly known to patients as a “nose job,” a rhinoplasty is a nose surgery used to reshape the nose and give it an improved aesthetic appearance. It also may be used to restore the nasal function due to a deviated septum, nasal valves, breathing issues, etc.
Revision Rhinoplasty
Revision rhinoplasty is nose surgery performed on a past rhinoplasty patient who failed to achieve his or her desired results or experienced nasal function damage during a prior nose job. The procedure helps a patient enhance the appearance of the nose and ensure that the nose brings harmony to the facial appearance. It also helps a patient restore the nasal function if it was previously impaired.
Ethnic Rhinoplasty
Ethnic rhinoplasty is used to account for the distinct facial characteristics of individuals of different ethnic backgrounds. It is a subspecialty of nose surgery and typically describes any nose surgery performed on ethnic or non-Caucasian patients. In the past, rhinoplasty focused solely on creating a “Westernized” nose for all patients, and it did not account for a patient’s ethnicity. Today, beauty ideals are increasingly being defined by multicultural standards.
