What is a Breast Lift?

The Advanced Plastic Surgery Centre, led by board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Joseph Perlman, offers breast lift procedures for residents of Spring, Houston, The Woodlands, Atascocita, Conroe, Pasadena, Baytown, and the surrounding areas.

A breast lift is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to improve the appearance of the breasts that have lost volume and are sagging, with the nipples pointing downward, often resulting after pregnancy or weight loss, or as a result of aging. Although most breast lift patients are women, Dr. Perlman also performs breast lift surgery on men who, after massive weight loss or gastric bypass surgery may have redundant tissue on their chests. Many women opt to combine the breast lift with a breast augmentation procedure to restore a more voluminous shape to their breasts.

To learn more about the breast lift procedure and whether it may be right for you, please contact Dr. Perlman at the Advanced Plastic Surgery Centre for a consultation. During this consultation, Dr. Perlman will assess your natural condition, your goals, evaluate your health, and carefully examine you to determine the most appropriate course of action to achieve the look you want.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Breast Lift?

A breast lift, also known as mastopexy,  may be performed at any age, but it’s usually recommended that patients wait until breast development has stopped, usually around age 18.  It is also recommended that you wait to have this procedure done after you finish having and nursing all the children you plan to have, as future pregnancy may affect the results of your procedure, however, since the milk ducts and nipples are left intact, mastopexy usually will not affect your ability to breastfeed in the future if you should change your mind and want more children.

You may be a good candidate for a breast lift if you are concerned about any of the following conditions:

  • Breasts that are pendulous and saggy, regardless of size
  • Breasts that lack substance or firmness
  • Nipples and areolas that point downward

Sometimes these conditions may be inherited and, in some rare cases, the breasts may develop differently so that one breast may be more firm and well positioned than the other. Some women have dramatic differences in the size as well as the shape of their breasts. Breasts that are large and heavy may be corrected with a breast lift procedure, but results may not last as long as when the procedure is performed on women with smaller breasts.

How is a Breast Lift Performed?

Dr. Perlman utilizes acellular dermal matrix (ADM) grafts, which are human tissue grafts that are placed under the skin and sutured to the muscle to create a sort of hammock or bra to support the breasts and keep implants from migrating or shifting position.  During your initial consultation with Dr. Perlman, he will discuss the breast lift procedure in detail and answer any of your questions. Dr. Perlman will provide specific pre- and post-op instructions, both during your initial consultation and after the procedure is completed.  Please be sure to follow these instructions carefully.

Recovery After a Breast Lift

Following your breast lift procedure, Dr. Perlman will recommend you wear an elastic bandage or support bra for one to two weeks. Your breasts may feel sore and swollen for several weeks, and you may experience a burning sensation in your nipples. Most breast lift patients are able to resume normal activities and return to work within about two weeks.

Everyone heals differently, depending on many individual factors, but Dr. Perlman and his friendly and knowledgeable staff at the Advanced Plastic Surgery Centre will monitor your progress and provide support through every phase of the process. We are proud to have helped thousands of Houston-area patients achieve the silhouette of their dreams through breast lifts and other procedures.

Can I See Breast Lift Before and After Photos?

At the Advanced Plastic Surgery Centre, we know that photos are a valuable resource for patients to get a good understanding of what to expect from any procedure. Breast lift before and after pictures will help you to visualize the realistic possibilities and results that a breast lift can provide.  During your initial consultation with Dr. Perlman, you will have an opportunity to see plenty of before and after pictures of breast lifts and other procedures that may help you achieve the look you desire.

How Much Does a Breast Lift Cost in Houston?

The prices of a breast lift procedure may vary based on each individual, and you may elect to have another procedure, such as breast enhancement, in combination with a breast lift. Dr. Perlman will be happy to discuss costs based on your specific choices during your initial consultation. Our office also provides flexible financing options and accepts many forms of payment for your surgery. Breast Lift Options

Breasts that have lost their shape and firmness; breasts that are sagging — these are the breasts that can use a minimal-scar breast lift. Over time, every breast changes, almost always toward more droop and less bounce. Skin loses it’s elasticity, muscles weaken, tendons stretch — the breast lift is the operation that changes all of that.

Many patients who come for this kind of breast lift are unhappy because they’ve lost some amount of breast volume over time. In these cases, a breast lift in conjunction with a small implant can restore lost volume and improve shape and position of the breasts at the same time. Whether performed in conjunction with a breast augmentation or alone, a breast lift can enhance the appearance of your breasts — and thus your self-confidence and desire to be seen.

Why it's done

During pregnancy, the ligaments that support your breasts might stretch as your breasts get fuller and heavier. This stretching might contribute to sagging breasts after pregnancy — whether or not you breast-feed your baby.

Weight fluctuations

Changes in your weight can cause your breast skin to stretch and lose elasticity.

Over time, gravity causes ligaments in the breasts to stretch and sag.
