What Is an Arm Lift?

Your skin loses elasticity with age as well as after being stretched due to excess weight. Without elasticity, your skin hangs from your upper arms.
Am I a Good Candidate for an Arm Lift?
During your consultation appointment, Dr. Perlman examines the skin of your upper arm, including the condition of your skin. An arm lift procedure may be recommended if you:
- Have significant loose skin on your upper arm
- Maintain a stable, healthy weight
- Do not have medical conditions that would impair your ability to heal or that may increase your risk during surgery
- Do not smoke
What Is the Process for an Arm Lift?
An arm lift is an extensive surgical procedure that requires general anesthesia. The anesthesia helps you remain comfortable and relaxed during the arm lift procedure. Depending on the extent of your arm lift, Dr. Perlman makes an incision in one of three locations — inside your upper arm, on the back of your arm, or a smaller incision near your armpit. Dr. Perlman then removes the excess skin and may also remove or adjust the fat of your upper arm for a more natural and toned appearance. The incision is closed with sutures, and the surgical area is wrapped with bandages.
What Does Recovery Entail After an Arm Lift?
Your sutures remain in place for one to two weeks. You may be required to wear a special compression wrap on your arms during the recovery period to help with swelling. You are provided with specific post-surgical instructions that you must follow to protect yourself from infection as well as to help your arms heal properly. Dr. Perlman may prescribe pain medications or antibiotics. Your recovery requires you to limit your activities for a period of time.

During your follow-up visits, Dr. Perlman checks the incision area for proper healing and also evaluates the outcome of your arm lift.
