What is Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Pellet Therapy?

If you want to get back the pep in your step that you had in your 20s, then Pellet Therapy is an option you must consider. Bio-identical hormones are plant-based hormones that have the same chemical structure (shape) as the human body.  This structure of the bio-identical hormones is what makes a difference when compared to the synthetic. Bio-identical hormones produce minimal to no side effects and health risks, whereas, with the synthetic hormones, side effects can be expected and varied.

Many use the analogy of a lock and key to differentiate bio-identical from synthetic hormones. The hormone is the key, and the receptors they work upon are the locks. The bio-identical hormones were made to fit the lock perfectly and when turned they release all the beneficial effects, but with the synthetic misshapen key, benefits are released along with a number of unwanted side effects.

The bio-identical hormone pellet method has been used in the U.S., Europe, and Australia since 1939, but the popularity decreased when oral and topical commercial products were produced. Since the bio-identical hormones cannot be patented, the major pharmaceutical companies have ignored them, making synthetic hormones the main stream.  Bio-identical hormone pellet therapy is one of the safest and most effective methods of natural Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) available.

What is Hormone Pellet Therapy?

Pellet Therapy uses bio-identical, all-natural testosterone and estrogen delivered by tiny pellets that are inserted under the skin. These implants placed under the skin are like a hormone storage garage, they are able to deliver a consistent amount of hormones throughout the day in small doses to provide optimal therapy. The synthetic hormones are used by taking oral medication, or by being placed on top of the skin, which results in an inconsistent release that can produce mood swings and energy fluctuation.

Medical Hormone Pellet Therapy, is the only method of hormone therapy that provides sustained hormone levels throughout the day, for up to 4 to 6 months, without the patient having to deal with a roller coaster ride of emotions and lethargy.

Because the hormones used are completely natural, pellet therapy is ideal for patients wanting the benefits of a natural hormone, without the drawbacks of a synthetic.

What are Hormone Pellets?

Pellets, usually smaller than a grain of rice, contain a natural plant source of either estrogen or testosterone.  A compounding pharmacist, using strict federal guidelines, compounds the estrogen and testosterone utilized in the pellets.

These pellets, synthesized from soybeans, dissolve completely over a 4 to 6 month period, leaving no residual under the skin.  The pellets are inserted in the fatty tissue underneath the skin and then they release hormones into the bloodstream, functioning most closely to the actions of healthy testicles and ovaries.  The hormone pellet implantation procedure is easily performed in the office of an experienced physician.

Hormone Pellet Therapy for Women:

Just because you are not old enough for menopause doesn’t mean you can’t have a hormone imbalance.  Many women experience symptoms of hormone imbalance as early as their 30’s. Perimenopausal women and post-menopausal women sometimes need a little of both estrogen and testosterone for an ideal hormone balance. The longer women wait to start hormone replacement therapy the greater the risk of developing health problems such as Alzheimer’s disease, heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, impaired vision and many kinds of cancers.

Studies have been conducted comparing hormone pellet therapy to conventional therapies. The pellet therapy has proven to help with relief of menopausal symptoms, vaginal dryness, and improvement in sex drive, libido and sexual performance. It has also proven effective to help with problems such as depression, anxiety, mood swings, migraines, incontinence, urinary urgency and frequency and restoration of sleep patterns.

Hormone Pellet Therapy for Men:

Men begin losing testosterone at the rate of 1 to 3 percent per year beginning as early as their 30’s. It is never too late, or in some cases to early for men to benefit from hormone therapy. Some of the symptoms of testosterone deficiency in men include fatigue, lack of mental acuity, loss of libido, difficulty achieving, or sustaining erection, weight gain, losing muscle mass, depression, and mood swings.

Pellet Therapy is the only type of therapy that produces natural levels of hormones men need. This therapy helps to achieve sustained levels of testosterone that would be produced by normally functioning testicles. Studies have also shown that optimal levels of testosterone in men can help prevent diseases such as: Alzheimer’s disease, prostate cancer, osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease and more.

What if my primary care physician says that there is ‘no data’ to support the use of pellet implants? And is it safe?

Physicians may or may not know the ins and outs of pellet implants. They could simply say that it is not safe without actually taking the time to do the research, so it really comes down to the patient to make an informed decision.

There are hundreds of studies available to practitioners, some may simply not know where to find them or may not want to do the research, but since 1939, pellet implants have been researched and developed.  Pellet implants have been used safely on five continents and been studied for decades, resulting in a large amount of data to back up the long-term safety and efficacy of bio-identical hormone pellet therapy.

It is always important to be cautious when selecting hormone replacement therapy. The goal should always be hormonal balance based on science and conducted by an experienced physician. Hormones serve as powerful chemical messengers that control your body’s internal functions. Too much or too little of a hormone, even in a small amount, can disrupt the balance of your entire body, resulting in serious consequences.

Hormone Pellet Therapy Benefits

Any endocrinologist will tell you that hormonal balance equates to health.  Hormones have the major role of controlling your body’s overall health.  All research conducted points to hormones being the key to intricate interrelationships of the body’s parts and systems.

During the time of perimenopause, menopause and andropause, men and women experience a hormone depletion and fluctuation. It is at this time when they start to experience a decline in their health. Due to the imbalance of hormones, men and women have an increased risk of developing age-related disorders such as: osteoporosis, stroke, cancer, thyroid malfunction and more.

You’re also more likely to experience problems such as depression, anxiety, memory loss, hot flashes, sleep disturbances, libido issues, and sexual dysfunction.

Fortunately, there is a way to balance your hormones to more normal levels. It’s called Pellet Therapy.

Symptoms of Low Testosterone in Women and Men

As testosterone levels decline with age, brain symptoms start to occur in the forms of: memory loss, mental fog, sleep loss, depression and mood swings. Other symptoms of low testosterone include decreased vaginal lubrication in women, decreased ability to maintain an erection in men, night sweats, joint pain, bladder symptoms, headaches and low libido.

When you start to develop these symptoms in your 30’s, the last thing you probably think it could be is low testosterone or estrogen levels. The early-developed cases are often the ones misdiagnosed, so before your physician writes a prescription for anti-depressants, sleeping pills or adult ADD medication, you may want to mention the possibility of a hormone imbalance.

Restoration of the body’s natural hormone balance is the desired goal of hormone pellet replacement therapy in women and men. Testosterone deficiency is where the majority of symptoms associated with age-related hormone loss are derived in both men and women.
